Gordmans Headquarters Ground Breaking Friday, March 1st, 2013 @ Aksarben Village
On a chilly Friday afternoon on March 1st, 2013, ground was broken on the new Gordmans headquarters to be built at Aksarben Village. The $28 million building is being developed as a joint venture between two highly-respected Omaha firms, Waitt Company and Noddle Companies.
An energetic crowd of over 300 assembled in The Aksarben Cinema to see artist’s renderings of the new building and to hear various speakers, including Dana Bradford, Jay Noddle, Jeff Gordman, Mayor Jim Suttle, and Greater Omaha Chamber President and CEO David G. Brown speak of this exciting new development. The event highlight was when Jeff Gordman got “on the mic” and performed a rap with a couple hundred Gordmans employees to the delight of all attendees. Chamber President David Brown then commented that he will now refer to Jeff as MC JG when they see each other at the gym, inciting much loud, raucous applause and laughter.
Due to the weather, all but the actual shovels-in-the-dirt moment was held inside the Aksarben Cinema. The event, planned by Laura Mitchell and Joan Lukas of Lukas Partners, was complete with scrumptious food and drink from Aksarben Village occupants such as Ponzu, Jones Bros., DJ’s Dugout and others. Midwest Sound & Lighting was extremely proud to provide crystal-clear sound for the presenters and background music for the after-party. For those interested in such details, we used a single pair of QSC K-12 powered loudspeakers and Shure ULXP wireless handheld microphones, all from the rental division of Midwest Sound & Lighting, Inc.
The headquarters building is slated to open on March 1st, 2014. The ground floor will be leased to various unrelated stores and shops; Gordmans is not planning a retail presence onsite at this time.
Congratulations to everyone who helped with this exciting new development at Aksarben Village!
