2002 Winter Olympic Games – Union Pacific Railroad

Overview

Midwest designed and installed a high quality sound reinforcement system for the railroad car carrying the Olympic Flame for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The sound system includes weatherproof electronics mounted as part of the train with power and audio connections to the locomotive.

Project Details

  • Midwest can incorporate high quality components into any size project and achieve results.

  • Given the various environments and stresses encountered by a locomotive travelling cross-country reliability was key design and installation consideration.
  • The car required a compact and efficient sound system that could withstand rail travel and be used to address large crowds at each stop.
  • Designing systems for use in all types of weather required consideration during design to deal with temperature, moisture and the extreme vibration of a railroad car without a suspension.
